Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and filmmaker Levi Douthit was born and raised in Richmond, VA with roots long standing in the city's artistic community. Hailing from a family of musicians, Levi was exposed to the beauties of understanding that songwriting comes with great integrity. His mother received guitar lessons from famed Virginia Bluesman John Cephas while still a teenager and his father has worked as a producer in Richmond since the early 80's. Additionally, they planted the seed of sound by exposing him to such acts as Joni Mitchell and Gram Parson while Levi was still in the threshold of his youth. Levi took the knowledge of the folk tradition from his mother and the producer's fine tuned ear from his father and evolved into the accomplished and versed songsmith he is today.

Though this was the background Levi was born into, Levi came to nurture his musical proclivities later in life. Having been a part of the skate scene, Levi's first creative output was filming local skaters and then collaging various clips into videos– many of which were recognized by an audience that far extended the Richmond community. However, after having been called to create within a new medium, Levi put this artistic endeavor behind him to dedicate himself to his formative love of song. Living by the gospel of Elliott Smith and Alex Chilton, entranced by the chaotic arrangements of the Microphones and Jim O'Rourke-era Wilco, and having mastered the finger-picking techniques of such practitioners as Maybelle Carter and John Hurt, Levi put pen to paper to write songs of loss, experience, and discovery.
